    hi guys,
this has got to have been answered loads.
    but sorry.
I'm looking to do the 20v turbo conversion to my mk1 golf gti.

What i need to know is what engine is best to start with and with which gearbox to use.

basicly i need a shopping list so i can start to collect the bits slowly as funds are low.
    any info would be great.
    cheers guys and gals
    :)

Obviously TT 225 bhp engine would be a very good starting point

But to be honest any 20vt engine would be good to start with and upgrade things as funds allow:)

I think AGU is the one to go for as it has big ports

    Could be wrong tho..

I'm sure someone will correct me if i am

AGU engine has a big port head but apparently less low down torque. If you are looking for 400bhp then AGU is good otherwise get the BAM TT or AMK S3 engine.

from what i understand of taking on this conversion you can use original mk 1mounts on the engine, dependant on code....

    gearbox, 02j is popular

i'm out to be awkward and use a 02m box

    not got that far yet,[:$]

depending on box used you will have to convert to cable change operation.

looking at it so far i think i'll try and get a agu engine with the 02j box and see what happens
    let the search begin
how much did your engine cost? a rough idea so i dont get stung.

mine was a bargain at 150-though i still haven't found out what the code is yet[:$] [:s]

seen whole set ups go fro 700-1000 depending on code/power

the qpeng guide seems easy to follow and more or less fool proof with what you need to do...

plenty of folk have done it on here and other forums, great build up threads on the vortex.

    got some links somewhere

i have a question now i have my lump next to the car,

my 20v engine came out of an audi, now like other audi engines that have gone into vw's do you need to swap the sump over to a VW variant???
