    2 Questions:

    1. How good are you at fabrication?

    2. How deep are your pockets?

If the answer to question 1 is very, then get a looksee under a mk1 and a TT or Rallye and scope out the size of the job required. I don't think I have seen anyone, anywhere list out what is require step by step because it is such a big job.

If the Answer to 1 is "complete novice" then your answer to Question 2 will need to be "Very Deep".

I know people that have 4WD a Mk1, including adding transmission tunnel and totally re enginnering the rear end to allow the 4WD axle to get in there. Its not a quick job so if someone does take it on as a paying job, then expect very high labour costs - parts although not cheap, would soon become the cheaper part of the job.

ha ha well answer to question 1 is not bad!!!!!

i am gonna have a stab at this myself with an audi set up i think.

gonna make a spit for the mk1 that will hold the entire shell rigid ready for attacking with a plasma cutter!!!

get hold of a tt and swop the bits!!!!

to make the 20vt engine fit is easy and i think the tt passenger side mount is same as an 02j so reasdily available.

i am up for this challenge.

why bother? rallye 4x4 only works when go pedal is floored
back to 2 wheel drive when less than flat out

looks like i will get a bumped audi and use them parts makes sense to use newer stuff and have independent rear suspension.

prop and driveshafts can be made to required lengths.

yeah spoke to the guy its just too far and i think he wants too much due to the cost of moving it 200 miles to me.

    shame would have been ideal.

thats just my opinion. i was concerned about getting it and it missing parts that may be a pain. i already have my 1977 ready to do. i decided it would be better to get a damaged audi and do the lot myself.
in my opinion those back panels are not worth 350 they can be purchased new as pattern parts.

i had a look making a quattro mk1 golf and personally would use a syncro beam modified to carry haldex and get a haldex controller so you can run near 50/50 4wd other than that have a good crack at it and dont forget to take your time and do it right.

possibly worth looking for powernuts caddy thread as he has put 4wd into a mk1 caddy.
