Seen a few kits about but reckon I could assemble the parts myself? I was thinking Seat 1.8T ,4 x 100mm ,305 x 28 mm discs.and Brembo's from a french car would only need the adaptor plates making up then? what would be the grade of alloy required or would steel be best?

Anyone carried out a similar conversion?[:s]

I happen to have a nearly new TSR "big brake" (285mm) front brake kit for mk1 Golf - discs, adaptors plates and bolts -- everything you need for an easy upgrade -- would you be interested ?

    Cheers, Will

The TSR kit is fine for a fast road car, but the pistons in the standard calipers (which the spacer kit re-uses) are a bit small for serious performance.

I think it was Brunty who said he had 304mm brakes... sounds close to 305! Lots of Alfas seem to have big Brembo calipers too. Just a matter of finding something the right size, with a suitable spacing. Vauxhall spacing from some models tends to fit a Mk1 - anything suitable in their range?

the mk1 280mm adaptors would enable you to fit the seat ibiza cupra 4 stud brembo brakes straight on in theory

RJ this sounds interesting,I am running a TSR 285 kit at the moment and as Mike says calipers are not great so was thinking Brembo's off a 405 and as stated the Discs off a seat hmm best get serious about finding these caliper

the only trouble is some of the adaptors arn't great fitment/quality wise, you could probably get some direct fit mk1 brembo adaptors from somewhere maybe badger5?

running just shy of 150 at the wheels and although brakes are fine for brisk driving on the road, really fancy making sure that brakes are at the ultimate spec, alreaady running Autocavan Brake bar,Bias pedal box and TSR 285 kit ,maybe I should just consider upgraded calipers and keep at 285mm?[:s]

    Thanks ...

My reason for interest is that I also have a Mk1; runs the TSR 270 kit with Pagid FR pads and with 140bhp flywheel would manage six laps of Combe / eight laps of Knockhill before starting to fade.

To compliment it`s `new` 16v my plans are - DS2500 pads before looking to change calipers, I want to retain the 14" wheels.

Ok so settled on a pair of Audi S2 twin pot calipers going to run them with my existing disc set up and a pair of caliper adaptors from EPYTEC in Germany unless anyone knows of a UK supplier?

76 or 78mm rings a bell, but I'd need to check to be sure.

I think the later ones are an even number too. Can't remember if it's 92 or 94. Close to your measurement either way.

The mk5 calliper option looks good, what size piston etc do they use?

Fancy 300's on my 16vt, any other opinions welcome too.

I have g60's at the min with conversion brackets. But got 16's now and have a phobia of brake gap.
