on the way into the office this morning, I noticed a distinct creaking noise coming from the front of the car. when stationary, turning the wheel reproduced something similar. when I got parked up, I popped the bonnet and gave the front a good push down. the noise is coming from the driver's side wheel/suspension somewhere... any ideas what could be causing it [:s]

car as in pic - '83 GTI cabby.

    cheers peeps [:*:]

CabrioRags where did you get those fat boy alloys? And is your car lowered and what size are they and will a similar type fit my gti mk1 lowered by 40mm whith no arch work ???

You could perhaps get away with no arch work if you bought coilovers and wacked them up to they're highest setting.

    That would be funny.

    a mk1 country!

    sorry bout the threadjack,

From my totally uninformed position i would say check all the bolts under there.

I seem to remember something similar happening on my old Nova, creaking when one rear corner pushed down. I think it was one of the springs turning in its mount[:s]

Try the bolts under the top mounts to see if they have come loose. That happened on mine.
