Small update was cold today so only removed the engine from the Derby! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Love the direction this is going. Why didn't you cut the corner off the fuel flap so you could still use it?
Thanks, because i plan not to use the standard fuel tank and may go RWD at some point once I decide how I am going to do it!
About time for an Update. Got my self a new unit this one has space to store and work on cars inside so i can get on with my build without having to wait for the workshop to be free and having to always keep the car so it can be moved. So Now the derby is in his permanent space i can strip all the suspension and stuff from the front end. First job was the engine bay removing the factory stone chip in the engine bay and preping it for some paint! Stone chip removed! Anti rust primed! And a lick of colour! Painted and fitted a polo mk2f GT/G40 steering rack and steering damper! Installed the suspension and stuff so i could test fit the mock 15 x 8 et0 wheels to check clearance with the new arches! Looking good! next will fit a polo Mk2F GT engine tomorrow and then sort the loom and get it running! so i can start on preping the body work for paint!
Looking good It's rubbish how things take sooooooooooo much more time than you think and hope Keep us up to speed with lots of nice pictures
installed the engine today and played with the wiring and now have spark and can hear the injectors working and engine turns over! now need to remove the engine again install the brake lines sort out fuel lines get hold of a aftermarket fuel tank and make an exhaust system! Tomorrow will start removing the dash and seats ready and prep for paint also remove some not needed wiring!
Moved in to yet again a new workshop! started preping the body for paint! Scrapped my doner GT Wish i welded the arches on a little lower but its done now! if after paint im not happy will design some custom fibreglass arches for it!
Got my new wheels So now i can finally work out what modifications i need to do to the arches! very happy with them! Front stick out 20mm i expected this! and rears sit perfect but will be adding 10mm drop plates to correct the axle angle and recentre the wheel. also there is no springs attached in this picture the axle is hitting the underside of the car so the drop plates will give me some much needed suspension travel also! I am going to redo the rear arches they just don't look aggressive enough for me and the front will be redone to!
I removed the rear arches to start again! Got my self some Skinpins Sheet metal fasteners make the job so much easier. Starting shaping the Mk1 golf arches to fit the derby shape the Skinpins help alot! And a picture to show the wheel sitting to fare forward this will be sorted with drop plates have already made some 3.5inch mock ones and fitted them and the wheel actually sits a little to far back now so 2.5inch drop plates will work perfect and will give me the perfect damper stroke on the back for a better ride!
