    Hi,

Need to replace the fuel tank on my Mk1 GTi
Been standing for years and any petrol put in ends up looking like muddy water.

Does anyone have an idiots guide to removing the tank please:

    Have unbolted the two straps
    Removed the filler tube
    Removed the fuel gauge wires

Can't see how to get the tank off
Do I need to drop the rear axle?

    Any assistance very much appreciated

    Thank you

I'm sure it should come out with a bit of a wiggle

Yes you need to lower front part of rear beam, can leave it connected to shocks.
