does any one know anything about the above mentioned car? found an original one in an old shed today in a bit of a state but it's all there and the interior is in good nick and looks very rare. it's got a 1600 ktronic injection engine (i think), a cool twin pod dash with rev counter/speedo and is right hand drive. not seen anything like it before.
Oooh very interesting! what makes it a Wolfsburg Edition? Mk1 Jettas with Kjet arent that common, they did a GLI I think (stand to be corrected of course) but most were GLS with twinchokes.
i haven't got any pics as yet but basically we went to see a scrap bay window camper and found this jetta in an old shed. the shell is pretty rough but the interior is clean and tidy, the vin plate is wolfsburg edition stamped, the dash has the twin pods which i haven't seen before and 2 guages in the center console it also has chrome bumpers, strange looking original alloys and wolfsburg steering wheel etc. it's only done 75k miles! lol!
Doesn't sound like anything familiar to me - and there was a Mk1 in my family for 20 years. The only real 'rare' Mk1 Jetta is the 1980/81 Mk1 GLi, one of which is in the classifieds here on CGTI today, which has Golf GTI mechanicals. http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117206 Other than that, there's the run out 1272cc LX model which had a high trim level: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117327
Remaining specs are L, GL, GLS And >1982 IIRC, were C, CL, GL, then run out LX model Aside from the GLi, VW were simply not into producing special edition Jettas (there was no Jetta 'Campaign' for eg) Euro 2-door LHD cars were same spec levels I think. The car sounds like one that's been adorned with early Golf parts. IIRC, Mk1 Jettas never had small bumpers, though they'll all retro fit.
cool, thanks for your help, if it is the case that it's been done by the previous owner, they must have changed the plates and re-registered it on the logbook. they must have been on a real mission! lol!
what i mean is that the vin plate has in no way been tampered with and is press stamped "wolfsburg edition" and the number matches the log book. who knows.
Yep, no worries. Any age of the car, plate etc? If you get some pics, I'll do my best. Know these cars well.
Ive just picked up a wolsburg edition brochure from 1984 it lists a golf mk1 5 door and convertible, a scirroco mk2, a passat listed as a quantum wagon, a transporter as a vangon and a vangon camper wolfsburg editions, I think this is a usa publication but still interesting, all models have the wolfsburg logo on the wings as per g60 edition one's. The mk1 had small chrome bumpers. This might shed some light on it, maybe a rhd conversion from the usa? but the brochure didnt list a mk1 jetta? mmh interesting.
my brothers scanner dosent work im at me mums house over the weekend i will try to take a couple of pics and upload them if i can find the cable
Right brief spec as looks like air conditioning tweed cloth seats with grey leatherette trim spoilers arches etc leather steering wheel and gear knob on certain models metalic paint as standard different options available, multi functional digital display on scirroco, sports seats and wolfsbury logos. The brochure isnt in mint condition but as ive never seen one before i picked it up. I also have loads of other inetresting things including a letter from vw stating that full production of the mk2 16v will not start until 1987 they just put out a few models to keep customers happy! who ordered early and were waiting, dated 29th july 1986 i will scan these and replace the photos when i get back home
Wow Mike - entirely new to me. Looks like US spec in the brochure, but if it's over there, it's surely in Europe? Photos of this Jetta could be interesting then..
the front of the jetta in the pic is the same as the one in the shed (indicators at the side of the headlamps and the twin chrome parts to the bumper). i'll see if i can get up there again tomorrow for some pics. fairplay for finding that brochure mate
