Mk1 lower brace fitting problem...

    Depends if you'll be tracking on sticky tyres??

    i like the idea of bracing between the steering rack mounts.


    its got to help keep them in place!


    id better get my welder out

    I have had two mk1's now and i have had to brace both of them with a piece of angle iron! i have only ever used road tyres too. Slicks would probably fold my car in half! :lol:

    I am intending to use sticky rubber :)

    Does that mean more streangthning?

    i run slicks and over a period of time i've now had to weld fillets around both mounts, a 100 x 150mm ish plate cut to size around the os mount to stop the bulkhead flexing and added a brace to join the upper bolts from both mounts together to stop the bolts moving aswell. ;)

    Well, i'v starded making and welding some braces and generally strengthning suraunding area, but run out of welding wire [:x]

    Seems like its gona be allot stiffer, i'l post some pics when finished :)

    Practice makes perfect

    Just think of all those spot welded panels on mk1 that could do with proper welding :)

    Well i'vjust finished mine, welding not the prettiest due to wire jaming [:x]

    It is very strong tho :)

    I will post some pics later

    Also today my car was rolling again after nearly a year on axle stands [:D]

    back to the topic, got longer bolts for brace which is now firmly in place :)

    here is a brace i made today, it's a T shape welded to existing mounts and bulkhead, should be strong enough now :) [​IMG]

    mk1 outside and on its feet first time in ages

    looking good mate. how did you find the safety devices cage for fit on the rear arches?

    Not the best fit, o/s rear arch pushed in slightly, but it isnt going anywhere :)

    exactly the same as mine then lol, atleast i know mines not a cocked up one anyway.
