In order to get any more camber than 0.5 on my mk1 with the nice ET37 wheels i have i'm going to need spacers. I'm having some 10mm thick ones made that will also replace the spigot rings to retain the hubcentric location. This should let me have around another 2 of camber to play with. While i'm doing this i'm thinking of having some spacers made for the rears that fit under the stub axles. I'm considering how much wider to go on the rears. Does anyone know what the track width difference front to rear is on a mk1, and any experiences of going wider at the rear? I'm thinking it must increase the rear roll stiffness..... but what else does it do? thanks for any replies
Per the VW Instruction manual (supplied with each car - the blue thing) Front 1390mm Rear 1358mm GTI models Front 1404mm Rear 1372mm So 32mm narrower at the rear, either way
interesting...... do you suppose it could be the wheel offset giving the 14mm difference? Not aware of any other parts different on the gti affecting the track? Anyways, i might use that as an arbitary start point, and go for 26mm spacers each side, make the track equal front to rear. Thanks
