ok guys i'm new to this forum i have a few questions for you how can i get more power from mine mk2 1.6 engine it is now runing on pierburg 2e2 engine is all standard and in a realy great shape which mods shall i do to get something close to 100hp from current 75hp cheers!!!
thx mate for your reply do you know some other mods i could do? i know abbout weber 32/34DMTL and if i find one i will definetly give it a try altought i dont have any probs with current pierburg 2e2 which kind of increase will i notice with gti cam? i was thinking abbout gti ignition system with knock sensor altought i dono could it be fitted on this block will i get anything with that and increasing compresion ?
yeah you could do the weber , gas flowed head , exhuast manifold etc...doubt you will be near 100hp though the money would be best put toward a bigger engine really
yes mate i know it isnt realy best choice for more power but i want to stay at 1600cc just have a bit more power engine block is in great shape autodata says factory commpresion for this block is arround 9-13bar and i have 13bar +-0,1bar on all four cilinders for exhaust which system is better for this engine currently it is 4-1 shall i go for 4-2-1 maybe?
4-2-1 manifold 272 cam and double 40mm webers? does the standard 1600 has smaller valves then the gti? Maybe find a gti if it fits?
I have a weber carb, 8v GTI manifold and downpipe, and 16v GTI exhaust system. With 8v GTI brakes its quite nippy. I'm looking to fit a GTI cam when I can be bothered.
hmm im not realy sure but i think gti has bigger inlet valves then 1.6 muppet9966 do you have some video of acceleration have all those mods changed engine power in any way? cheers
I'd go for a * GTI cam * GTI manifold and downpipe * Full exhaust system (Jetex/Scorpion) * Twin webers or single * GTI gearbox * 1.8 carb bottom end Will definitely notice the difference In a way i wish i had kept the original 1.8 carb in my Mk2 and modified it, but in the end i went for a GTI 8v conversion
spend no money. save it till you can justify a bigger engine or a different car. Just for reference: I had a 1.6 8v and did gti camshaft, weber 32/34, bolt on air filter, and a gti 8v downpipe (early) with matching exhaust. no other mods and it made 102 hp on AmD Essex dyno. This was a decent step up, and good to drive, but additional components like twin 40's, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, flowed head have worse cost to benefit ratio.
I'm glad you didn't. Best 15 quid I ever spent. It's still alive in a low mileage jetta. Was awesome with a GTi cam too.
I had Piper 272 and the webber replacement carb on mine. Was good fun until I could afford a bigger engine. Plus you can normally get your money back on the parts easily enough.
plus fitting the 239mm vented discs is cheap and improves confidence on those twisty roads, plus a gti front ARB goes on reasonably easily and does cut out some body roll. In theory fitting a front ARB without the rear ARB should increase under-steer. Can't say I ever noticed as it was very chuckable both before and after. vented brake discs is a very good and cheap mod though. (I sold my Driver years back, still miss it. Never did any power mods as the intent was always to buy a nice low miles 8v gti. I know the insurance is more for a gti but the cost of the car is little different, worth the extra 500 IMHO)
wow guys thx for your reply's helped alot i decided to give those mods a try beacose ~100hp will be more then enought for mine daily i will go tomorow and search for gti camshaft and other components someone knows the difference betwen pre and post 87 gti camshaft i ask beacose i need camsaft for mechanical head
