Just in the process of recommissioning a MK2 1.6 TD. I have a couple questions.

    a) Which oil?

    b) Currently hasn't got a rev counter but have a spare set of clock including a rev counter.
When I was wiring yesterday I discovered a red / black wire that was at some time connected
to the alternator by a spade. Looks as though it had corroded and fallen off age's ago.
Is that the the "W" terminal for the rev counter?

the alternator spades should be labled, if it says W next to it then yup thats the one :)

only diesel mk2 clocks work straight off the W signal though, you can get W signal converters for petrol clocks or convert petrol clocks to take a diesel signal

Thanks. The alternator is pretty cruddy. Didn't notice the "W" but guess that must be it as the petrol MK2's we've got havn't got the third wire.

it may have had a petrol alt swapped on at some point, or if its a pattern one it may not be labled. proper genuine diesel alts should be labled :)

Found it... there was a "W" under the crud so it looks like a genuine diesel alternator :). Clocks installed last night but havn't fired it up yet.

All up and running including tacho but..................when it started the tacho worked fine
after a couple of minutes it settled at 750 rpm and doesn't change with revs. I assume the output from the rev counter is at fault. What is the output signal, frequency or analogue voltage?

Can anybody tell me what the sensor is with a plug just above the Turbo?
One red/black wire and one red/green wire. The reason for asking, I just noticed that one
of the wire's is broken. There is a permanent 12volt supply. Car runs OK without it?.

Thermo time switch for cold starting ;)
Switchable live feed to it supplies a ground feed to the cold start valve.
