    Hello,

I would like to replace the suspension on my '91 MK2 16v - I don't want to spend big money so no coilovers.

Can anyone suggest a nice setup please?

I live in london so there's lot of sppedbumps meaning I can't go much lower than the standard ride height.

I may also fit some audio equipment so it would be good if the rear shocks could be adjustable.

    Cheers,

    Matthew

lowering kit from GSF which contains boge gas dampers and springs. No problem unless going over the mother of mother speeds bumps or car park ramp which is more than 40 degress incline.

    Its what I got

    Hello Dave,

How much is that setup you speak of?

I have a budget of 300 before fitting.

I also need to replace my brakes - I have only owned the car for 5 months, do you think I should replace the full set?

Are there any brands you'd recommend?

    Thanks :)

The suspension kit is 165 + VAT I think.

As for brakes I'd probably go for standard discs or zimmerman cross drilled with pagid fast road pads.

Does the kit from GSF include new front struts or are they just inserts? Also, are the springs branded boge? Im looking to get new suspension for mine, but I need one that has complete front struts as mine are a bit nasty looking!

Yup the gsf bode sport kit seems pretty well made and a comfortable ride in the MK3. Fitted them to a mate's mk2 a few weeks back, but car not yet on the road, so can't comment on the ride.

Don't forget to budget for new top mounts and bump stops all round :)

Have just ordered set of Boge/Sachs gas struts and 20mm lowering springs with G60 top mounts from vwspares.co.uk for my mk2 8v, hope it feels ok when I fit them this weekend.

Daveybwoy, is yours lowered 20 or 40mm? It looks great!

Also do you think STS Holburn tyre place would do a good job of fitting the stuff as they replace shocks and do other suspension or should I go elsewhere?

    Thanks

Dave - your car does look very nice! Is it lowered 40mm? It looks a similar height to mine with has a -40mm Eibach kit fitted. :)
