Info on putting a 2L 16v into a MK2 8v GTI seems to be very thin in the ground. I apolgise if there is already a thread on this and I missed it.

I have decided to go with a 9A and run it on k-jet.

I'm thinking of buying complete Passat GT:

    1. Will I be able to use the fuel injetcion system from the passat (which I think is ke-jet??)?
    2. Will I be able to use the passat gearbox, and is this desirable?
    3. Do I need to use the wiring out of the Passat, and will it connect to existing wiring in my car (1991 GTI 8v)?
    4. What parts do I need to source that I won't get with the Passat?

The other option is to get the engine from a scrapyard, and then get a wrecked MK2 16v to rip all the its I need out of, though I think this will probably be more expensive.

    Any help is appreciated.

I believe that you would be much better off taking a 2L 16v engine out of the Mk3 Golf. That already runs digifant like your H plate 8v.

I believe that is virtually a case of plug and play as the mk3 ECU will plug straight into your existing loom. Coupled with KR cams etc you should see good gains.

You could of course convert your car to k-jet but that would involve a lot of work which in my opinion would eb a waste of time.

So if I did that, what other parts would I need to source apart from the engine itself?

Would I use the injectors/fuel lines etc that I have already got? Or would I need to get them from the MK3?

Try and get the complete ABF engine - i.e. block, head, manifolds, induction system, fuel rail, injectors, ignition system, ECU, all associated wiring.

I'm guessing that all the bits that connect to the fuesebox in the Mk3 will fit the fuse box in your Mk2.

A 9a on K-jet will be a monumental pain in the ar*e to fit by comparison...

Eh, if changing all the fuel system etc, ECU and all associated wiring
why would it be easier than fitting K-Jet? If you can do
the mk3 plug and play option of course....game on, might as well go for
    mk3 option.

    oh.......didn't realise mk2 8V weren't K-jet already....whats the difference?

The early ones were j-ket. Around 89 they changed to digi.

There are several differences, main one though is that j-ket uses mechanical fuel injection. Digi is electronicially controled.

sorry to butt in,,, would the plug and play option run for putting the
gti 8v engine into a mk2 8v gti? if its plug and play then im assuming
labour for fitting will be relativly low?

im assuming jamesB youve done what i have said? how have you found it?

    thanks

i would go 16v though this will be a female dog on the insurence,,, what you
lot reckon, i could go without declaring the 2lgti engine in a mk2
gti?? a 16v will look too obvious right? lol sorry for the dodgyness,
though insurnce is a female dog.

If you have undeclared mods, and you have a crash, then just about everyone involved, and quite a few people who aren't, are going to find a really big stick and shaft you with it. Without lube. [8(]

I was thinking the k-jet option because I am on a very tight budget. Pain in the ass work I can do, money I can't. I'm guessing it is gonna cost me a fair bit to source all those parts from a MK3.

If you do go for an ABF you'll need a late model mk3 or Seat engine as the inlet manifold won't fit off the earelier mk3 into a mk2. It fouls the master cylinder.

    Let me get this right.....

2.0l 16v ABF from a mk3 Golf will fit straight into my 92 1.8l 8v Golf wich has digi management sys??????

No changing dizzies? No changing heads? No changing nowt?

Just unbolt old eng+box and insert new 2.0l 16v ABF engine.

was looking at doing the 20l 8v conversion but if this is easier then its the 16v for me.
