I have been looking into fitting cruise (mostly to save money on the M4 bit of my daily journey) and on loooking in VAGCAT find that it was actually am option.. even better its the common as muck Hella system, found on Citroen XMs, Range Rovers, Volvos, Jaguars and unsurpriseingly Audis.. even better is that I actually aready have the ECU, vac pump, conreol element and the conreol stalk from an XM that was broken up some time ago, with all the plugs.

Has anyone seen a factory fitted one? as the ilustrations in VAGCAT are a bit vague as to how it attaches to the throttle butterfly. It does seem as though the most important missing part, the bracket for the control element is still avaiable

I've never seen one, must be rare as!
I would be very interested to see how it turns out though if you go ahead with installing it.

one of the best thing of owning a mk2 is the frivolous way you can exploit your throttle, why challenge it? or just steady your foot!

check it out on the vortex, a fair bit of info. the hard part is getting the right brackets and vacuum unit for the throttle of your engine

The vac unit is dead easy to get!.. it's a standard part used on many many cars. The rod that conects it is differnt. the only brakcet that would be an issue is the one that goes on the cam cover, howerver VAGCAT lists it as still avalailable, as is the linkage from the vac unit to the TB. The rest of the system can be made up as I go along.. (this won't be the first I have retro fitted to a car.. but the first to a golf)

Mind you its not unsurmountable to make the brackets!

speedo sensor signal comes off the GTI speedo sender for the mfa unit, look for a random white/yellow wire hanging out of plug W or use the white/yellow wire from the radio.

this assumes the ecu is the same, it might need diffo speed signals

edit: clutch switch same as a brake switch

It just looks for a pulse train. If its as normal they start to work at just under 30mph if its like the nromal ones, if thats the case then the XM ecu I have will almost certainly do the job!

That isn't factory fit chap. Factory Mk2 cruise is on the stalk and looks like the MFA switches.

I have a set ready to be fitted but its from a LHD so am trying to work out how to fit it easily to a RHD pedal set.

Factory is indeed on the Stalk and is a vacuum set up.

    Any ideas anyone? :)

I have a few sets now. Sidney I will be installing mine within a couple of weeks.

FYI the ECU can be found in p38 land rovers, you can take the whole kit out the landy and connect to mk2 cruise stalk. Easier said than done but its almost the same components.

Working on a 'How To guide' so will update. Making brackets to look OEM.

Some dealer might of had that as an option but theres no way they are genuine parts.

    Your right pal!
The vw dealer had my car for 3 years and put the cruise control on as an optional extra
