    Hey lads,
After buying my first Mk2 Golf gti and going to do a full restoration.
Just wondering anyone have a contact for someone near cork, Ireland that would do a 20v turbo conversion.

    thanks

Hardly anyone here doing them commercially, I'd say if you ask on the Autostadt or All Ireland mk2 Golf owners pages on FB you might get a better chance of finding someone

Ya I’m thinking it’s not going to be to be easy.
After talking to a good mechanic today he’s after persuading me to rebuild the 8v that’s in it, gonna do a full nut and bolt rebuild so it’s probably better to keep original.
    Thanks for the reply anyway

I've done a few 8vs, a nicely built one is better than you would think.

When you look at the price they sell for a good 8v seems to be worth a lot more than a conversion. Makes sense financially to rebuild as is unless you really want a conversion. I do understand the urge to upgrade.

+1 on keeping original - let us know how the rebuild goes and good luck [:D]

If you're rebuilding the engine - what about getting a bit of 'work' / upgrades done to it to give it a bit more pep? Could be a slippery slope though...

Starting with a GTi I'd be inclined to restore it to original or as close to original as suits yourself
If you're keen on a conversion it's maybe a bit less heartbreaking to start with a less desirable model, then the hardcore ones won't give you grief either

I'm in the process of a 20v conversion myself, with some help and parts from on here, and a lot of reading. There is literally everything covered on here if you wanted to read up on it first. Only thing I would say is that lesser models like my own need more parts changed if you do decide on a conversion, and it gets pretty expensive pretty quickly..

I live in the glens of antrim myself so opposite end of the country from ye
