Hi, looking for some help on 02a shifter/selector gear lever not springing back to the centre when in neutral. I brought the car running however was sat for 3 yrs. The issue I have is the gear lever doesn't spring back to the centre when in neutral. If I move lever to the left or right in neutral it just remains in the position moved to. Is this a common issue and if anyone has any advice? Thank you in advance.
Check the relay lever under the bonnet on the gearchange is not seized remove the cables and see if the shifter move sup and down on its own, make sure the cables themselves arent sticking . lubricate all the moving parts
I had this issue after replacing all of the worn bushes,had to adjust the inner cable by moving the slotted bolt on the end of that cable ,didn't move it much but did the trick,cheers.
