    Hi All,

My speedo works fine but there is a really annoying mechanical whirring noise that changes with speed.

The cable is fine. I suspect this means a repair for the speedo itself.

Can anyone recommend a repair expert...there are plenty online but I'd welcome the voice of experience.

Or if anyone knows an easier fix!

    Cheers

    Paul

ps: 1990 16V, 160 speedo with just the one connector.

Remove cable from box (be careful when removing as drive gear can come off and fall into box)
then inspect gear for damage then spin gear by hand should feel free and smooth.
Fault will not be in your clocks. More often that not its the cable or worn diff bearings which will damage the speedo gear.

Thanks fasteddie, I changed the cable and all is well......although if I listen really hard I can still just hear that pesky whirring!
