Hi ive got a mk2 golf 16v '90 spec, which has a problem. when i start the up its fine, but when i warm up the car it has a oil pressure light/buzzer warning light on the intrument cluster comes on.

    I have changed

    1. Oil and oil filter
    2. a fully working intrument cluster
    3. 2 pressure switches on the oil filter

The engine is pretty quite with no tappets sound. i have opened the oil cap when the car is running and i can see oil running on the cams.

could any one please suggest any information.

does the buzzer stay on constanlty?

Are the pressure switches brand new? check the state of the connection and the actual wires on the pressure switches.

Oil pump is not very expensive so Id change that aswel.

when my oil buzzer was sounding but Oil pressure was fine on the meter I removed my oil pump and noticed a crack/notch in the teeth.

a new pump fixed the problem.

Check the wiring to the top of the oil cooler, sometimes the little spade connectors look fine but aren't making a good connection or there is a break further up.

Buzzer constantly stays on (have to switch car off then on again for it to stop), comes on when warm after 4k, changed the oil switches on top of the oil filter housing with second hand ones (just to try) from engines we know worked. Going to change oil pump tomorrow and go from there.

doesnt matter where the sensors are, both holes are still in direct oil contact, just make sure the wires are on the right sensor

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 2 sensors? I really want to replace both.

    Cheers,

mine did this as said above it had a break in one of the wires just as it came out the rubber boot
I tested the oil pressure with a live gauge first to make sure the engine was ok

They operate at two different pressures, the white one is 1.8 Bar rated, and is only looked at when rpm is above about 2000. The blue one is 0.25 Bar rated, and causes the warning light to come on if the pressure at idle revs drops below this.

Part numbers currently are: white - 056919081, blue - 028919081H
