Paul Cowland in the Toyo Tyres Saloons race, last Saturday at Brands (not to be confused with the Golf GTI Championship -which was Sunday). I know Paul occasionally reads in on Club GTI - please be gentle ! Note the exhaust design & the fact the Aero Catches are the first things outta there!
Ouch. Twin exhaust front to back, Does this mean the car was running a boat anchor? Regardless of engine, it is always a shame to see a race car getting wrecked like that. I can appreciate and know first hand the effort it takes to build them. Sorry to see it happen.
Chris, those aero catches are ****e!.. nice idea, but plastic tat - just goes to show how strong they are.. His head hit the door window too it looks like.. Good advert for a seat with 'upper wings'... Not to mention a HANS device..
I take it he fell asleep at the wheel! I thought people used aero catches to secure the bonnet down when driving, not for when you smash the front of your car up and roll it!!
Just to clear up the confusion I have inadvertently created on the bonnet catches. I believe they are sold with aluminium pins, which are designed to be the weak point. This is partly due to the inaccesibilty of the catches as & when they are impact damaged, since they are flush, unlike normal bonnet pins.
Looked great aswell. I bet alot of work went into that MK2. I'd of probably shed a tear if it were mine. [:^(] Been looking up on the web for the spec of it, but can only find a few pictures. The cage did the job well
Standard bonnet pins.. All the hinges etc on those aero catches are housed in plastic.. Any force just snaps them, allowing them to pull through! Letting the bonnet up! As said, the least of his problems..
The roll cage is badly bent and seems to be too far away from the A post this caused the whole roof section to move over before the cage done its work.
I see your point, it must be a cage that doesn't go through the dash........ but imagine if there was no cage
