Ive recently noticed that the handbrake on my MK2 isn't working as it should.

Its missing a few splined teeth, where it clicks into place. This has always been like this since i bought it. Not sure how its happened though.

Is it possible to replace this, and how hard would it be?

Also, how do you go about adjusting the handbrake cable on a MK2.

Any info on the above would be great. Cheers

i bought a whole new hand brake lever as mine had the same problem and failed the mot susequently, it was about 35 from VW trade parts specialists in Chelmsford(part no 191711303H). easy to fit, just slacken off handbrake, undo brake cables, take out couple of screws it the floor, pull off hb tensioner plate thing, disconnect hb light switch then put your new one on and reverse sequence, not sure how to tighten up hb cables though thats a bit too mechanicy for me, good luck.

Thanks for getting back mate.

Seems like its an easy swap. Will try and find a goos second hand one first. If that fails then i might try that VW trade parts specialists you mentioned above. Cheers

Thats good to know, cheers Rubjonny  , now it widens my search for one.
A MK3 one will most likely be in better condition than a second hand MK2 one to...
