Its best to replace all of them at the same time as i learnt when one of mine went, i replaced it then over the next week the other 2 went so i ended up doing them all

Just for reference, I think the VW part number for these is 431919040A and they're about 1.30 each. I ordered some today, so I hope it's the right part anyway :)

Well done mookie! Leaving mine green to keep it original. I'm not lazy, honest ;)

Will let you know tomorrow when I pick mine up. Bloody useless dealership forgot to order them in.

Can't see why they can't find the PN though. They have visual parts catalogues on their computers!!

TBH, for the amount of time it took to solder an LED into them I'd never bother replacing the bulbs with VW bulbs again - when I need to. Just pop into Maplins for some LEDs.

Has anyone removed the green filter at the top to get more light into the b...y instruments?
Last time when I had the instruments out and looked at it, it seemed to be a bit of a tall order.

    Has anyone done that?

Yeah I did it so I could use red LEDs. It's just a case of prising off the cream cover very carefully (it's easy if you're careful) and then whipping out the green strip of plastic.

Just for future reference if anyone else is looking to change their bulbs and comes across this thread, this is what they look like:

You will need 3. Two shine down on the dials and one backlights the MFA :)

I removed the green filter and replaced it with some purple plastic (cut from a foolscap folder).

Needed a few layers to stop it being pink, but works quite well.

Also experimented with blue and orange. Very easy to do.

    Holy thread revival batman!
I have a query, my car has just failed its mot due to the main beam 'tell tale' dashlight inop.
So basically when you pull the indicator stalk backwards the external headlights come on, but the dash warning light doesnt, I have checked and every other light lights up in the dashpod.
I have removed my dash pod and have identified the three bulbs which appear fine.
Can anybody help me with this fault?
    Im stumped.

    Cheers Rick

Rick; the blue "LED" is just a standard bulb with a blue cover. Should be easy enough to replace (unless its soldered in, but I don't think it is)

I've got a couple of sets of clocks here if you want to rob the bulb out of one if them.
