I love this sort of project and your doing a good job, great if you have the room. I welded over 20 places on my MK3 and the most enjoyable part for me was making the small panels etc that weren’t available to buy, quite enjoyed the experience.

    Haha, nooo!

You only see it on fords as VW people seem to lash it up rather than fix it properly

Fair play, probably easier to do it that way than it is to butt weld repair sections in, flying!

Great bit of work, will be following. If it makes you feel any better, i reckon mine is worse! The difference is, i dont know how to weld! I don't have a thread on here, but might throw one together. I do have some pics on instagram mainly for my own reference - 1990_gti_8v_resto.

Did you make the rotisserie yourself? I'm looking to have one made here in the next few days as the postage charges to NI are making them pretty expensive. Do you have any measurements for pivot height etc for yours? I'm assuming in goes full 360?

Excellent work mate. Fair play taking it on, most would have scrapped it and found a better shell. As for getting the vw undercoat off in tight corners you need a heat gun some flat bladed screwdrivers and a handheld brass wire brush. Looking forward to future updates.

Cheers, I'd really appreciate that. The height and making sure I have clearance is the main thing I guess. Looking to make one which can be raised and lowered using threaded bar if you've seen them? Easier to get up off current axle stands and that.

That sounds like a great reason to have one moral has been low a few times already. So much rust!

So the hight of mine to the center is 1100mm but if you want it to turn all the way round you would need to make it about 1200mm high.also I put a 600mm pipe at the bottom for legs. And a 1000mm apart at the bottom

Fair play with this, it really isn’t the cleanest shell is it but will be extremely solid when your done. Keep up the good work!
