    Hi guys,

I have recently replaces all the gaskets in the car, had the dizzy off had it tuned, but now, SHE just wont start, it turns over but wont fire..

any ideas? i have been told it could be the fuel pump relay, does anyone know which one this is?? also, i have been told you can use on of the other relays to test, does anyone know WHICH one??

    Thanks

turn the key 1 click, can you hear the fuel pumps prime? if so go under car just in front of the rear driver wheel and disconnect the electrical plug on the main pump then repeat the test. If you cant hear the in-tank pump prime its dead and this is probably causing your problem

yeah sounds it, check the pins on the ecu plug for corrosion, and also the pins of the 2 pin plug near it with a black/yel and red/yel wire going to it

look in the scuttle area right at the top driver side. there is a small plastic cover there remove this and you'll see the ecu, the spark unit and the 2 pin plug i mention. pull all this out and check the pins on the plugs for corrosion

i checked all of those and found them to be fine, i then checked the dizzy again and the wires leading to it, they were so BRITTLE that they broke as soon as i got a hold of them, then like a clever TW*T i broke the socket in the dizzy... vw job i reckon... problem is all the wires are brittle.. so going to be costly...

you need a basic one with an inductive pickup. no need for one with a rev counter or advance dial on, though they can be useful
