Hey, just bought a mk2 and im turning it into an ice monster. People that have done this in the past, how does the battery and alternator cope with big sound systems? Better to get them both upgraded?
or fit a split charge system, but it is wise to up grade the alt and battery as well, what do you describe as 'monster ice' tim
i have a mk3 i'v got a vr6 120 amp alternator a huge battery under the bonnet a second in the boot thats all to run 1 sub and amp
Dont think my alter/battery would cope with a large sound system, the lights dim every time I turn the volume up
well, hopefully my sound system will be: 3 subs, mono amp, 8 speakers, 2 4ch amps, dvd headunit, 4 screens. this is the end product, but i think i will put summert smaller in till the rest of the car is how i want it, but defo think i'll need to upgrade power, how much would a bigger alternator cost to get fitted?
three subs being what? 18" and 2x12"s? 8 speakers - i assume you mean two sets of components? there is a lot to think about, tim
tell us what u want how much your spending and we will give some advice on how to get loud street bass or alternatively loud on the mics i don't do sq i'm afraid tell us your plans as we don't want you to go n blow all your money on subs and amps when alot of the system depends on design especially box and the space you have available
never forget wiring either, 10% of budged should be kept for that, then you have sound deadening, box building, carpet, other materials etc... there is alot to take in to acount,
it's all in the planning and design not the equipment i'v seen it proven with 2 10" jbl subs doin hi 140DB
damn rite, cant just stick an amazing sub in an off the shelfbox and hope it will sound how you want it, - unless you want it to sound crap that is!
well, its bein converted in my company demo car, so: 3 12" or 10"phoenix gold xenon subs powered by a PG xenon 1200.1 amp 4 sets of xenon 6.5" comps, (2 sets up front, one in rear doors, one in boot) powered by 2 PG xenon 4 channel 200.4 amps Alpine dvd headunit connected to 4 screen, one in each door card. thats the plan as it currently stands, but that is the long term aim, like i sed i may put a smaller system in until the rest of the car is how i want it.
so thats 16 speakers then? not 8 - 4 sets of components, if you are going to have three subs, why not have two of one size and one of another, such as 12" and 2 x 10" or the other way round? tim
thats not monster thats simple show no go and a waste of speakers but thats demo cars for ya battery and alternator should be fine
8 speakers mate, 4 sets of comps = 8 speakers. yeah, its basically to show how much can be put in the car, more for show that anythin else, im thinkin of doin a smaller install first tho, just in the short term till the rest of the car is spot on, some inverted audiobahn subs maybe.
fair enuf, i was counting the woofer and tweeter as one, so i'll let you off. so, 8 woofers and 8 tweeters
i found that the biggest crowd puller isn't the looks of it or how much is in it but the amount of bass it can put out this is mine doesn't look much but as u can see it pulls crowds easily enough and wins comps
