I took my engine out today and the rear mount has loads of play in it, its like jelly. I opened it and found it had been hacked and the bolt was only in on the 2 threads that hadn't been cut off.

A replacement Golf VR6 one is 36.50 from GSF minus club discount.

Will I need to cut the new one down of can it be left 'as is'?

When I was doing some research into a vr conversion it was recommended to cut them down otherwise the engine sits too high at the back and also puts the dipstick right under the slampanel so you cannot remove it.

I never looked into the cost to have it cut, gave up on the idea before it really got off the ground.

theres a post on mk2vr6 on how to do it, a couple of hockey pucks and mk5 r32 sump (which yours is i believe) will get your sump sitting just above the bottom of the subframe

i raised mine up all round by about 20mm (rear mount was cust down before hand) as liked my sump to stay in 1 piece, couldnt keep my engine cover though as i couldnt close the bonnet, wanted to keep it though as the wiring accros the top of the inlet looks awefull, so insted going to use mk5 r32 COP wiring cover
