Hoping to get out on the Telford Roamerlite Novice event, will be applying as soon as the regs are available online, link to info here
http://www.telfordautoclub.co.uk/ if anyone else fancies a go at an event that's a good starter. My friend from Hereford won it last year with his 14 year old lad navigating.
Bi annual update time... I have given up trying to finish this myself, we're just to busy at Deutscheparts for me to spend any time on it so..... We trailered it to VAG specialists RPM in Malvern and told them to finish it and MOT it, which is all now done and I'm collecting it later with the following done: Cambelt kit Full service Carbon Kevlar clutch kit CRL code 4.6FD gearbox New water pump / radiator / ABF coolant flange Will get some photos up over the weekend. Taking it out on a Nav Scatter event on Tuesday to see how it performs, will update later on. Exited !
...picked it up today, MOTd, insured (via David Auden) and taxed, going to get some miles under it over the weekend.
Well done for getting it finished, looks good. I know the effort required, as Iv'e also just finished building (MOT'd and Logbooked in the last 2 weeks) a stage rally mk2. Similar build to yours. Its the little jobs that take the time.... Jon
Taxing this Monday AM, will update the thread with what we've done so far. Spent 10 minutes drawing lines through the 'to do' list but as it stand it now has the following done. -CRU code Passat 2.0 gearbox is fitted, has made a massive difference 'down the lanes' take off is much improved and 60mph in third is approx' 5000rpm. -Carbon Kevlar clutch fitted along with new rear main oil seal at the same time. It's quite 'on or off' but transmits the power. We now stock these for 02A applications if anyone's interested please PM me. -120 amp VR6 alternator now fitted, front facing lights now no longer dim when they're put on. MOTd. -Full service inc Cambelt, water pump, plugs, HT leads, cap / rotor arm etc. Surprising how much smoother this has made it. Jobs to do - Alu sump guard, we've mocked this up and will be bolting on later this week. - Corrado Speedline alloys are being powder coated white next week, not sure what tyre to go for as road rallying uses so many different surfaces, think we're going to try Toyo R1R's first and see how they do. -Brake bias needs playing with, getting the front locking up a bit too easliy, but it has a bias valve so should be easy enough to stop. - Few bits of interior trim to refit and we're off rallying Taking it out on a night 'Navigation Scatter' next week organised by Herefordshire motor club if anyone's in range and is interested. Insured it with David Auden insurance for 275, that covers all competitive events and 1000 miles road use,not bad I don't think.
Is that 3rd party cover for the competitive and event road mileage, with the 1,000 road use miles a separate third party cover ?
3rd party fire and theft for non-comp use, third party only on competitions. Car is locked up in a secure compound though during the weeks, makes a big difference too.
Here's the Golf at Curby, been so busy it's not turned a wheel in over a year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-hF3Oa3SYU Booked again for May 31st and once that's done, it's staying OUT of storage and I'm going to get it out on some road rallies this year.
Thread resurrection from the dead, but.... Has this car actually done an event yet? Or is it just loitering in a shed round the back of a warehouse in some remote location?
