    Hi Everyone,

    I recently bought a 1996 8v GTI AGG as a minor project.

She's done 138,000 miles, with no service history and a slightly slipping clutch. Previous owner fitted Bilstein suspension, braided brake lines, fitted the anniversary alloys, K&N air filter, aftermarket headlights (which I have mixed feelings on) and did some minor servicing (such as brake pads).

So far I've replaced the spark plugs, pollen filter, fuel filter, wiper blades and cleaned the throttle body.

I currently have waiting to be fitted:

    • Brembo front and rear discs
    • Brembo front and rear pads
    • Replacement gear linkage
    • Oil filter and oil
    • LUK clutch
    • Rear wheel bearings
    • Timing belt and water pump
    • Front seats from an RX8
    • New material to reupholster roof lining, and the A, B, & C pillars.

At some stage I will probably replace the steering wheel too as I'm not particularly keen on the feel of the standard one. There's also a small amount of surface rust under the plastidip on the doors and other body panels. This will be dealt with in the spring as I don't have a garage and I don't want to end up making it worse by sealing in moisture.

I also have a spare matte black (plastidipped) grill for sale too if anybody is interested.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

Looks cool in the matte black, I was going to look at a mk3 that had been converted to a 1.8t and that was matte black!

Hope to see you around

Cheers! Perhaps for the same reason as me (wanted a Mk2 but the budget wouldn't stretch)!

Cheers Hxrry, its gloss black underneath and I'm on the fence with what to do with it once I have tackled the rust (gloss black rat look, plastidip matte black or graff paint).

Love your wheels by the way!

Strangely I quite like it. Must be the wheels.

Agree with the headlights though. Welcome along, it's good to see further Mk3s on the forum.

Looks tidy. Just returned to mk3 ownership myself after 5 years off. I have a mk2 as well which I love but the mk3 is way more civilised inside, especially on a decent run. Only bought mine for a bit of fun and now I'm using it as a daily! love it!

    Good luck with the build.
