I was just preparing my car for a long journey checking oil,water etc when i noticed my alternator bracket/tensioner had totally cracked right on the point where the alternator is attached to the bracket basically the belt was holding my alternator in place as it was pulling it into position towards the crack although slightly to one side Is this a common problem on a mk3 gti 8v or does anyone know of this happening before?
Don't think it's that common but could easily happen if a bolt is overtightened into the alloy bracket... Good news is that scrapyards seem to have more MK3 Golfs than any other dub at the moment!
