mk3 golf tdi

    i maybe buying a mk3 golf tdi cl.. Can anyone give me some info on these. It has 160.000 miles but full service history. Are these a good reliable motor or not.. Any info would be appreciated Thanks

    yeh shud be reliable just as long as its been kept well in oil and coolant etc. the engine should go for many more miles. if it is looked after!

    id only pay a few hundred. it will need bushes, suspension, all sorts of consumables. to get it into a 110% bullet proof motor youll wanna take care of a few things

    my mk3 is on 192k

    And thats a ABF is it not?

    My GTi 8v is on 117k and feels like new.
    I have also been driving a 1.8 Driver this week thats on 190k and that drives well also.

    Thanks for the respone. I'm paying 400. Selling my mk2 golf gti 8v so should have some extra cash to play with..

    ja, on an abf, but with the tdi the suspension bits will still be worn etc

    Obviously depends on budget but cars a dirt cheap at the moment...

    MK3 TDI engines are reliable but slow and not very torquey, MK3 GTi's handled badly enough from the factory but the standard cars were pretty awful as they were built for comfort more than anything...

    Late MK3's also have a bit of a rust issue as there was a paint adhesion problem when VW started using water based paints

    I'd get a MK4 if you can afford it - they don't rust and much much better performance out of the PD TDI engines and they are proper GTI's too!

    lol the pd engines were good

    and yeah, mk4s are the nuts compares to mk2

    Eh?? Thats correct > PD engine = GT TDI
