Worth getting the ABS tone rings if yours are looking a little crusy.

A press is ideal although a large vice and some well fitting sockests will do the job.

Did this job on my daily last year, Pagid pads, brembo disks, ABS rings and wheel bearings, came in at around 90 ish.

I have a universal Sykes and Pickervant piston windback tool, it needed a bit of a fettle but did the job.

    Hope this helps

no need for any special tools, races can be tapped in with a hammer and a suitable drift. the old bearing races make a great drift

Do the rear bearings HAVE to be replaced with the discs!? I havent looked in detail, but are the discs not secured onto the hub in exactly the same way as the fronts? (1 retaining screw) - with the only difference being there is a handbrake cable to worry about when releasing the calipers?! I thought they were a seperate item to the discs?

No, they are held on with a caged nut & pin, the same as drum bakes.

The bearing is mounted within the disk -if you are going to the trouble of getting the disk off, you may as well do the bearings at the same time.

NigeP has a great guide here

You could swap over the old bearings if you can be arsed, but at about 10 a side it aint worth it. You will also need a 10mm allen key socket to undo the caliper carrier bolts, i had right nightmare with these as they had siezed in and i had to use a gas torch to heat them up.

I ended up puttin my jack lever over the 10mm allen key I was using to do mine! It resulted in a very black finger nail when one of the bolts had almost my entire weight on the end of my jack lever arm [:D]

I would also agree that you may as well change the bearings with the disks for such a minor fee.

I changed my disks last week to my surprise when I took the old disks of I noticed at the back of the disk there is a round section with ridges. I suppose this is for the ABS. Although I quoted all necessary specifications when I ordered them. I have received the wrong ones. After preparing them with the new bearing shells for fitting I decided to carry on and replace them. So now I have no ABS. Please check you have the right ones first. One more thing it is impossible to just bang the shells in with a hammer, they must be pressed in first. after that you can hit them in the rest of the way. Good luck.

The abs ring on the back of the disc is removeable - I tapped it off/on when replacing my rear discs.

A set of Irwin Bolt Grippers for the rear hanger bolts usually come in handy!

Mine didn't need pressing first. Went in all the way with a socket and a gentle tap :p
