a wire goes from headunit to tweeter, then another leaves there to go to main speaker.

Thats weird i thought the wires went from the HU to the speaker and then wires went from the main speaker through a crossover and to the tweeter

the wire for the main speaker leaves the tweeter.

rear is other way round i think.....HU to main speaker, then main speaker to tweeter.

how easy would it be to wire the h/u to the main speaker then the main spwaker to the tweeter ?, would the original cable go all the way to the main speaker?

Most component speakers have a 'crossover' so you really only connect the headunit to the crossover, which then filters the signals to the speakers which you connect both the tweetor and woofer to the crossover box.

Might be easier just to get a component set which has a crossover. I assume the way stock speakers are wired up are due to they having some kind of resistor/capacitor to filter out the signals, but not really sure, just odd.

The crossover (resistor) is on the tweeter on a Mk3. To fit comps, just use the existing wiring and stick the new crossover in the dash below the tweeter. :)

i did as phil said (make sure its a seperate 3 way crossover) in my old mk3.

the prob with cabling on mk3 is to get through the door plug....its a PITA.

I think ill stay away from the alpine's. I had these before and thye were amazing, paid about 50 for them delivered. But with these you need to wire the H?U to the main speakers then their is a resistor type thing which then goes to the tweeters. So for the front speakers they would not be any use. For the rear speakers (in the 5 door) would be perfect.

If anyone could recommend any speakers, which would be pritty simple to fit, with minimal moddification and sound good, would be appreciated.

Because for the front speakers, the H/U goes to the tweeters and not the main speakers, the the resistor/cross over filters to the main speakers. With the Alpine SXS speakers they go the other way around.

Now its a long time since I wired mine up, but I cant see why you have a problem?

Is the resistor a seperate unit? :)
