Heres the figures(parkers): 1.8 GTi Anniversary 3d: 138, 7.6, 1236kg Volkswagen Golf VR6 (92-97): 138, 7.1, 1220kg
I get these from Parkers Technical Review: MK3 VR6 2.8L, 3dr, 174bhp, 235Nm, 140mph, 7.4s, 1155Kg, ref MK4 Anni 1.8T , 3dr, 180bhp, 235Nm, 138mph, 7.6s, 1279Kg, ref I'd imagine in reality: Straightline race - evens Twisty bits - mk4
the mk4s get away from roundabouts really well. they have such a good spread of power. its not like drag racing is the be all and end all of car judgement lol
just goes to show how much figures can vary better to base this debate on official vag figures methinks
The reason i post this topic for discuss is because i plan to trade in my vr6 for the 1.8T,from the reply here this two vw golf performance is about the same so i think i will keep my vr6 and wait till i have enough budget for the mk5!
If you're keeping it standard then stick with the VR. However, if you get the 1.8T re-mapped then you would be able to have a bit more power to play with for not a lot of money.
this is very true, the 1.8T seems to be much easier to tune, from maps, larger intercoolers, larger turbos... then again whack a charger onto a VR and you could see 300+.
My old Vr6 only had an induction kit & exhaust, made 190 bhp on the rollin road and used to beat my mates '01 1.8T that had been revo'd.
got another 25 horses when I swapped the exhaust on my scooby. Aparently late VRs (obd2 engines) normally rolling road at about 180 bhp standard Oh and your maths is abit suppect too standard figure for a vr 174 claimed figure above 190 differance is 16 not 26 so its possible that the two mods could give a 16 bhp gain?
It was an early one - on a K plate. It was rolling roaded at a club day in south wales, and made 190 BHP, I have my printout - nobody was more shocked or pleased than me I can tell you. Although I know you can't accept these figures as gospel.
