    okay sorted [:D]

i fitted mk4 textar pads, put some ptfe tape on the nipple threads( c&r suggested it as the threads are slack and can let air in while bleeding)

wind the pistons right in, undo handbrake cables and fit the pads/bleed it..then pump the pedal 40 times and only then connect the handbrake

    back to normal now [:D]

    Of course they self adjust.

That crap in the mag about a gap defied all logic!!!

Gonna ptfe my threads aswell, think they may be causin my poor pedal :)

the "brain" :lol:said that those mk4 nipple have a habit of siezing, so vw made em a loose fit ,hence they can let air in when undone  so the tape stops em siezing too :p

Nice one, i'm gonna do this with mine. Need to get a matching pair of nipples (oh er) for mine as i still have 2 different ones. [:^(]

Are the textar pads just a brand or some special ones?

textar is just a brand that c&r suggested, gsf sell them cheap
they have sticky pads on them , use the sticky on the outer pad and not on the inside one as it can rip the dust seal

im sure any decent brand will be fine

Cheers, how are the brakes now? Have you had a chance to test them a little?

Have you changed the fronts to 280's. Did you get Goodridge braided hoses as well. I've got all the bits just need some nice weather to do it in.

the brakes are very good now, powerfull with a hard pedal at normal level

i already had 280s on the front and goodridges all round , although i changed the rear hoses to suit m4 calipers

Teflon tape is always a good idea, just make sure you buy the old "water" stuff, not the gas stuff - gas stuff is a lot thicker these days and makes them a bugger to tighten.....

Won't make any difference tho if you tighten the bleed nipples while the easy bleed is going ..... fluid flow all out of the caliper.

I found also that it's pretty much impossible to get all the air out of the calipers - I re-bleed them once I've been driving for a few weeks so the bubbles have had a chance to find their way to the top of the caliper.

Also, a low pedal must mean there's air in the system somewhere - for the pedal to go low the fluid must be going somewhere assuming your M/C is ok - and compressing air is the most likeley bet.
