    Hi all

I have mk4 Golf GT TDI 115 which last night started displaying on the dash board engine workshop along with the glow plug light flashing. The car is not lacking in perfomance in anyway and i can't see any observious like a burst or leaking vacuum or boost hose. I think it must be a sensor or something simlar.

The car is also on its count down to needing serviced with 600m to go i don't know if this is related or not.

I am and agri engineer so i really do grudge taking my car to a garage to have the fault codes read. What i was wonding is where i could buy Vagcom from? Don't want to buy some rubbish off of ebay.

    Thanks
    Sandy

Where do you live.. there might be someone local to you!

Glow plug faults will show in vagcom and they are easily replaced

A genuine vagcom cable will set you back about 200ish

It not a glow plug fault as i replaced them back in the winter, the engine workshop fault only comes on after the engine has been running for a few mintues.

    I'm in Perthshire Scotland.

200 isn't alot of money when you consider a the price of a couple of hours labour in a garage.

I had this on my mk4 and it was nothing to do with the glow plugs it was in fact the brake light pedal sensor switch they are very common and it make the glow plug light flash like mad
    So try that

if the brake lights don't work replace the switch if they do, you need to plug in!

Glad your in the right frame of mind to buy the genuine cable, it's well worth the money

You dont always need genuine. I have a spare usb can bus version for sale and a proper hex com version. They both work. Only the usb is fixed to version 805. something but will also work on the mk5. My serial hex won't work on can.

Another vote for the brake light switch, especially if it's not been changed before.

    Hi,

The brake lights are working so i think the switch is ok unless it is an intermittent fault. This sort of brings me back to my earlier question where do i buy vagcom from?

    Thanks for the help
