Leather, sunroof & climate, 18" rims, DSG, Cruise. All adds up, but that is a bit much.

Yea and it is a 5 door - which is just wrong !!!!!!!

That is a ridiculous price, mine is the same with two less doors and no
leather or sunroof and I paid 22,600 - no make that the bank paid that
    :-)

Bl00dy banks always want their money bank !!

Assuming you don't need space for the kids, there's too much choice at that price when looking at second hand cars if you look at other marques.

What you driving these days "Bob", er a Golf, how about you, er a Porsche. ;) :p

Hmm lets see, a mk5 golf or something like a Skyline

with enough spare change to modify it, insure it + run it for the next few years...

then go and buy an expensive suit, travel around the world come home, set fire to your skyline for fun, go and buy another one kit it out with james bond style accesories, eject someone at rocket speed from the passenger seat, accidentally kill them in doing so... You didnt like them much anyway.

get arrested, go to jail, buy a get out of jail free card from the hobo/shamen up that dodgy alleyway for a hefty fee, either that or have your mate drive your 2nd skyline through the wall of the prison and then escape, run away to your new tropical island you bought on your travels, change your identity and live happily ever after in the carribean making short trips on your brand new yacht to the mainland to buy bread and coffee and glitter, giving the change to bums in the street to go and buy glue to sniff..

then go back to your island content with life knowing that you've made a bum very happy, then kick back in your string hammock in the blazing sun, with your stunning wives (24 of them to be precise - 2 for each month)fanning you with palm leaves wearing very little and supping a cold cold cold (just above freezing) beer, and think to yourself "I wish I had a mk5 golf... Pfffft!"

Maybe some people need 5 doors, the extra practicality, anyone ever thought of that?

Or a warranty and company car tax breaks. (Mk5 GTI is lower than many other company car tax brackets due to the excellent CO2 ratings)

Id get a five door. I hate moving seats about and friends clumsily falling into back of a 3 door.

List price for a 5 door with DSG is 21825 according to Gilders website but looking at the options list its easy to reach 27k.

    For example:

    Leather 1800

    Sunroof 500

    18" wheels 445

2 zone climate (standard on my 5 year old Volvo!) 700

    Cruise 270

    Winter Pack 335

Thats nearly 4 grand so its very easy to reach 27k but I agree alot of money. If you are buying it as a company car and had to buy new whiat would people choose?

that is crazy.....i'd have an e46 M3 if i were paying that much and wanted a fairly practical, but fastish car. m3's prob a better buy from a depreciation point of view as well.
