Hi, heard of a few other cars doing this. Mainly whilst turning left. Seems the cure is a new steering rack. Most VW dealers will be aware of this problem by now i'd imagine. Take a look here for more info: http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/329357/ShowPost.aspx Cheers, Osprey
gona take mine into the dealers , printed off all that info , so if they try to fob me off i will throw that at them
In fairness to dealers, I've heard stories of some phoning vw technical dept regarding problems with cars to ask if there's a known problem and solution and VW flat denying there is any problem when they obviously really do know that there is a problem. Chances are your dealer will have heard of it, but they'll probably want to check over the suspension first before changing the rack as it's a fairly big job. Best to let them look first and see what they say before sticking loads of pages off the net in their face! Good luck with it though. Cheers, Osprey
Pleased this got posted, mine goes in in the morning. Always good to have a bit of anti stealer bullsh*t ammo in yer back pocket.
mine goes in on tuesday for them to have a proper look , but the machanic seemed to know abit about it already which helps
Took mine in yesterday, technician drove the car about three yards and said straight away that it needs a rack. Apparantly its a problem on the new Passats as well.
if only everything was built as well as a Volkswagen... yea right... piece of poo quality on their models these days.. especially mk5's dissapointing considering their OTT prices too.
Exactly Bill. It came with a whole load of problems which have now been ironed out, but it doesn't exactly fill you with hope does it? Even more worrying is that when you read the road test shoot outs, it still comes out on top for build and quality. Christ knows what a Megane or Astra must be like.
a friend of mine has had a mk5 2.0tdi for a while now.. and has been a die hard vw bloke forever. this mk5 has nearly sent him to clio trophy ownership! nothing but grief on all his last NEW vw's polo gti that kept cutting out at junctions, beatle cabrio which kept breaking its hood folding mechanism, mk5 tdi which has continual electric window faults, ill fitting door, paint coming off bumper. quality sux, so yea it makes you wonder what the others are like. my seat by comparison has had none of the niggles any of his cars has had..(yet)
