I've not used my Mk5 GTI for a month due to working away.

Last night the battery was totally flat, even the locks didn't work off the key.

I started it with jump leads and it now runs fine but the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree. There is ABS, traction, tyre pressure and a steering wheel light on.

I only drove it about 2 miles and today the battery was flat again.

Could the battery be causing the other faults? Before I parked it it was perfect, no problems at all and I'd just had 2 new front tyres fitted.

Any ideas? Problems with damp maybe?

Get a new battery in first off and then drive it around for a few miles (if it is running right).

My dash was lit up after I disconnected my battery for a while, but the lights all self extinguished after driving a short distance/few miles.

As above, CANBUS cars don't like decaying battery voltages.
Get a new one and drive it (sensibly) and it will probably be fine.

    Hi
Mine has been doing the same the last few times i used it , the starter was not going over as fast as normal and the dash lights were slightly dimmer. I ended up reverse bump starting it to get it to the audi driver day. But the next time a charged it there must be some dead cells and it has much reduced current output and charges far too quick. But still would not start the car and the voltages were ok

I got a new battery for it was about 135 ECP . There are 3 different types of bosh battery for this car , so i took a picture of the old one and got the correct letter coded item . Now works fine.

Do you have a fault code reader , even a crappy 5 bluetooth dongle and you phone is ok to clear stuff. I use VCDS but keep a dongle in my car to clear problems with my map every few hundred miles. Steering wheel light just do some lock to lock turns . tyre pressures is linked to the ABS to that wont go out until the ABS is operating normally , as it uses the slight wheel speed different to know of a wheel is flat

I think a new battery will fix all

    Thanks for all the help.

I'll get a new battery on it tomorow and report back.

Will any 096 do? Duff, would the 3 different ones be different sizes?

as stated above your traction abs steering etc lights will be on as the battery has gone flat and lost its basic settings for the steering angle sensor. 7 out of 10 times it will reset itself within 50 feet of driving it, 2 out of ten times driving for upto 2 miles sensibly will clear the lights, 1 out of ten times you will need to get it set up using vcds

Well he's not given it to me so must be OK that or he's not bothered Eddie

The lock to lock and drive at a steady low speed works it normally puts the light out in a very short distance
