    Hi folks,
What would be the correct tire size, with respect to rolling radius, for a set of 15" by 7" wide...

I'm wheel shopping see and wanna price tires for a set of BBS type multispokes.

best size would be 195/50, but if you need clearance go for 195/45

Yeah but I'n thinking that I wanna keep the correct rolling radius - Will 185*50*15 go on a 7" by 15" rim safely or are they too narrow?

The rolling radius would be the same whether you go for a 185, 195 or 205/50. It is the 50 part which indicates the tyre height. the 185 etc is width. I think you'd struggle to get a 185 on a 7 inch rim, but I stand to be corrected ;)

I thought the tyre wall size was a percentage of the width or something so a 195/50/15 has a smaller rolling radius then 205/50/15.... [:s]

    Correct.

As to 'correct' rolling radius - the GTI/VR6 came with 205/50/15 so they are a correct Mk3 radius.

Okay doakie dudes I was just too lazy to work it out...

A 185 tire with a 50 profile means tire height is 50 percent of the 185mm. So for a 205mm 50 profile tire the height is 50 percent of 205mm. So in short the rollin radius of a 185*50*15 is smaller than a 205*50*15...

    Metric Rolling radius formula =(wheel diamter*25.4)+((profile/100)*tire width*2)

Or if U wanna simplify it:

Metric Rolling radius formula =(wheel diamter*25.4)+(profile/50*tire width)
