Hi guys, not sure if this is the correct place for asking this question so apologies upfront ;)

I use my Mk 1 Golf GTi for track days only now. Current spec is:

    MK3 2.0l bottom end
    Gas flowed head
    high lift cam
4 branch with straight thru s/s system
All the usual suspension set up
    16v master cyl/servo and 280 mm discs/calipers

It is pushing out circa 155 bhp. I am now looking for more oomph, circa 200bhp should suffice.

Looking for options please with spend circa 1000.00

    1. Using the existing set up
    2. transplant

    ??

    Thanks in advance
    John

must be a carb / ITB Setup, and a cam of 288+ as a minimum,

im currently building a ITB megasquirted 2.1 8v engine, altho my knowledge is limited of the megasquirt system at the minute, but im learning fast.

i think you'd need 12:1 compression or so and some great mapping to see that on an 8v

Vw quote a transmission loss of a 3rd to a quarter usually dont they?
    So Aphex is about right.

However, to get an 8v up to that much could take a fair bit of work!

will couldn't beat 170bhp, even with all that work, it needs big compression, big cam, and big revs

did Will run a 304 cam?

the old 8vF3 VW engines used to make 200bhp but loved to pink at 5k IIRC

yeh will had a 304 cam, i think it was that x-flow head that stopped it producing anymore.

i got to 180 at crank (RR print out but arnt always accurate tho ;) ) but it took a stupid amount of work and some crazy mapping.

    THIRD!!!:o

I should hope not, my mk2 looses around 25 bhp and i think most of dubs loose around 20-30 bhp(2 wd)

Any more and there is something wrong

Qtr on a 112 bhp car is acceptable but not on 180-200 bhp car as that would be 40-50 brake!
