Apprently, the bolts that hold the starter motor to the gearbox are M10 x 160 and M10 x 45.
The short bolt goes into a blind hole on the gearbox but the 160 goes through the gearbox. Does it go into a hole on the engine?
Also, what is the third hole for, on the “rabbit ear”?

Ok, having looked at the engine it now seems to me that the bolt is also one of the bolts that mounts the gearbox to the engine. So, it is M12.

From recollection (on a MK2 at any rate), yes to your first question and the rabbit ear hole is to the front engine mount.

Ok, I made a template and held it to the engine. The 160 bolt doesn’t go into anything and therefore does not need to be 160 at all and needs to be held with a Nyloc or self locker nut.

It also seems the gearbox is only held on with 4 bolts and a joiner.
    NB means nothing behind.

On the Mk2 one of the starter bolts actually bolts the gearbox and engine to the front engine mount iirc?.

That’s what I thought would happen with this set up but, probably because the VR6 box is not designed to bolt to the R32 it doesn’t.
