I dont care what there like to work on, I still think there awesome, and yeah i have seen 1 or 2 up close.... Ill have a second go though, not seen a Vulcan on here yet:
I worked at the RM base doing Geotech work a while back. Dug a 3m deep "soakaway" - then timed how long it takes two bowsers of water to soak away (!). Just before I had finished (it took ages), a Chinook landed about 50 metres and the vibrations collapsed my soakaway pit ruining the test!
Eurofighter. Becuase it's the only fighter plane that I think looks elegant, mad becuase I can't imagine it was too high on the list of priorities when they designed it. Honda RN01, 30k for a moutain bike [Wisper] that didn't even win much [/wisper], shame Honda have scrapped the team and are having all the bikes crushed!! Alfa Romeo SZ. Just a stunning motor, even though the huge slab sides make the back wheels look too small which drives me mad. But the rest more than makes up for it.
Their service track record, esp recently, doesn't really help people's perception of them as pants either.
come on, if reliablitly and build quality came into it then most of the italian cars posted on here are in the same catagory. Still its an awesome thing to watch, much more manouverable than it should be, and sounds great. Looks maybe not to everyones taste, but then eye of the beholder and all that Got to agree with the deltic engine someone posted up. Great peice of engineering that. shame they only really put em in trains.
You're mixing several different things here. Firstly, it is an opinion that they are beautiful, of which I don't actually disagree. I am pointing out that it is fact they have a poor track record, neither of which I'm saying disaplies to Italian cars. Secondly, you're talking about your own opinion (obviously!), whereas I'm talking about a lay, generic perception of the Chinook. So in conclusion, yes, Chinooks are great, if unreliable, not unlike Italian cars. It is however, slightly more of the essence that Chinooks are more reliable given current political climate!
"Eye of the beholder" and what have you, but lets all read the title of this thread again. how can you say thats the most beutifull machine ever made? its horrible
It was succesful. Greg Minaar won the overall on one in 2005. Several world cup wins, NORBA title, won the 1st world cup it was entered in to. And was on the podium at pretty much every race.... then there was its presence. Look amazing in the flesh so i agree on its 'entry'
thought they had just signed up brian fairclough for 2008? as he rode 2007 quite well in the juniors? was an awesome bike, rave reviews form the riders in the team and the support..
someone already has for me it's the sr71 (just awesome) and i really like the s37 also love the '69 camaro (true muscle car looks)
