The problem with a 2nd opnion is, that it will only give 'another' albeit subjective, opinion. When you have it, does that automatically make the first guy wrong. Maybe the 2nd guy is wrong. Maybe the 2nd guy agrees when in fact theyre both wrong! Best of three might be the answer! True recourse really only lies with Vosa tbh.
I would find out where my local VOSA test centre is, and take it along to them, explain to them what has happened and your opinion. I'm quite sure they would have a look at it, and if they say they are fine, well their word is more or less final.
well i had them off this weekend and they are slighty misted (not MOT failure) so i just decided to save time and borrowed two shocks off a mates project car to put in through the MOT. i will keep them on until the coilovers arrive but i still think they might have tried to pull my pants down because they said one of my cv boots was split and i looked and it seemed to be knife cut. i dont think i will go back to this place again they just seem to have taken the p*ss.
It would be worth asking around others in your local area. Dodgy MoT stations do exist. These days any decent garage is booked solid with work (there's been a general trend in the industry moving away from dealerships to independent garages) so are unlikely to 'generate work'. But as said before they are much more closely monitored what with the electronicalisation of the MoTs, so a good garage could fail something where previously they may have been "kind hearted" and let it through.
TBH the test station I use is a little on the lenient side, my mk2 has passed it's last two MOTs with a knocking CV joint & a frayed seat belt (now replaced) so they're not all after work.
very wise you'll find Vosa are hot on quality checking these sort of places as their mot turnover is much higher
your slight misting might be my major leaking, why not buy 2 front shocks, yours are leaking anyway and then you know that your suspension is ok
Just joshing chief its good for morale its been ages since i heard someone joke about them squirting oil on the shocks.
i think this is really what this whole debate is about misting is basically a atomised layer of shock oil on the casing this basically means it must have leaked, but weather it warrants a fail is at the tester's discretion. its a tough call tbh
no mate, they can mist slightly and this is allowed, but as said its all down to the testers interpretation of the manual, a more experienced tester might say misting where as someone with less experience might say major leak
ETB on Hylton Road in worcester. Bunch of ****ing Monkeys. The only thing i will use them for now is there 4 wheel laser tracking and camber alignment kit.
HMC at Patchway, Bristol. Pushed so hard on front crossmember, with a screwdriver, that the car lifted on it's suspension. Then failed it for rusted & holed crossmember. It was only a Belmont so I scrapped it
The garage/proton dealer at shiremoor in North Tyneside - 25 for the MOT - but lying bar stewards when they tell ya whats wrong and how much it would cost. PS my best mate has worked for kwik fit for few years, other than him they are useless wazziks. one guy who works with him used to regularly set cars on fire!
