mounting angle of weber 45's

    hi guys, i was wondering if anybody knows roughly what the maximum angle (away from horizontal) you can mount weber DCOE's without getting issues from the floats/genneral running of the carbs? i assume they ideally would be mounted horizontally.....

    this is a pic of my current setup on my KR, i have had the engine running nicely but it just doesn't look right to me, i think the manifold may be for ITB's instead....

    I think that's the wrong manifold.

    I seem to recall from my DCOE days that you need them flat - or as close as possible - to allow the floats to work properly.

    I have my doubts that set up will work.

    looks wrong,as said they need to be level as possible iirc,what make is the manifold? post some more pics up I might do you a swap for mine if your interested:)

    cheers for the replies guys and the move Chris,

    the engine has been running and driven on this setup, however a small leak started to occur from the choke at the rear of one of the carbs, which i assume is due to the mounting angle. strange that it only occurred on one carb, but either way not good.....

    I ask the question as i'm looking at possible ways of modifying/adapting the manifold to suit, otherwise i'll be in the market for a new one or swaps ;)

    I'm not sure on the make but its a damn nice fabrication, any ideas of origin anyone?

    I think the max for webers is 5 degrees up from the rear to the front of the carb. I've never seen them tilting down.

    you could machine both flanges at an angle to get level.

    Its a itb manifold with Dcoe bolt pattern, i dont think the float chambers will work properly at this angle


    Webbers should look more like this this. My MK1 Before the 120mm trumpets were fitted and pipes reworked. You will need another manifold, but that one you have does look good should sell easy.

    Thank you for the responses guys

    I agree, it was my initial suspicion [8(] had a read through this article http://www.teglerizer.com/dcoe/rasorcom.htm so i imagine the fuel was filling air ducts and not being emulsified.

    Love the low ali rad, guessing for airflow.... v nice :thumbup:
