still waiting for an answer on this... 1.6 8v would probably use less petrol than a 2L 16v right?

Considering I usually struggle to get 200 miles to a tank, I probably wouldn't notice much of a difference going to twins right? Maybe even an improvement if they're tuned properly?

i would think the smaller the engine the better mpg, but it depends how hard your working the engine. would tink 200+ miles per tank is achieveble tho.

good so I can tell everyone I improved my consumption going from 32/34 to twin40.. thereby making it a valid excuse to upgrade

I used to get 180-200miles from a full tank on my old ITB'd Golf...

Never properly got round to tweaking the map for part throttle cruising[:s]

Average MPG must have been about 20ish overall[:^(]

Funny how this thread has just popped up again !

I went to the 'Ring and destroyed the head gasket..

Now, 1 1/2 years later, I have a fresh MOT on it and ready to have some fun again !

seems odd that they are sooo bad, do people not really work on the map to lean out a little at small throttle angle and 70-80mph?

my two tonne v8 will do 35-38mpg on a run

Sounds like to get some mpg from these you need some kind of custom ECU mapping to get fuelling, megasquirt and the like I assume?

TBs all generally run on a 'custom' ECU (barring the occasional use of Peugeot 205 and others I've yet to hear of).

Either way, these then all need mapping to tailor to the running spec of the engine, ie via a rolling road.

On part throttle settings, the map can be tailored so that it is delivering optimal economy, whilst at full throttle, which is a different part of the fuel map (the 'top row') it is set up to run richer for optimal power. On the motorway, clearly the cruising setting is part throttle, so that's what yields the economy Badger5 mentioned earlier in the thread.

tales of low mpg on throttle bodies makes me thing it's down to driving style and very poor part throttle mapping

Didn't Jolfa manage to run his with just a spark controller and no more? Of course Jolfa's well cheap and was getting 3mpg or something.

Jolfa had bike carbs, me thinks your alittle confused as generally TB run on electronic injectors so need a 'custom' ecu.
