I have 2 mates with supercharged VR's - the one with z-engineering'charger is noisy, the one with Vortech 'charger is virtually inaudible. Even so, the guy with the quiet one wishes his was noisy so everyone knew he had it! True, but even hot air is better than no air being blown in; I've driven the Mk2 with the Z-engineering one several times, with & without 'charger - it's considerably faster with.... Both mates have changed to toothed belts - no slippage since. one of them's been on 2 years - the alternator is fine.... but they don't have turbo lag, and don't require mods to the VR's engine internals like a turbo (which is a considerably more expensive conversion after-market). The power delivery is smoother than big turbo conversions which is more suited to front-wheel drive only applications IMHO. If you'vedone all that can be done to rectify the above (apart fromconverting to 4x4 like some! ), then adding a supercharger gives more power without giving it so much extra that it returns the car to having the same level of the above faults as the standard car (again, IMHO gained from experience not other's opinions or heresay) I believe in doing both! Well I didn't read it sopleaseexcuse my lack of forum time, Paul
I still wouldn't have one. Oh, did I mention the reliability factor? I don't know anyone who's had one last more than a year...... I didn't mention insurance either. For the 60BHP they give, I'd rather have Nitrous.
Fair enough! Like I say -one of them's been driven hard continually for 2 years (z-engineering one, which works off it's ownoil supply, not the engine's so is running on Mobil1). Kind of a moot point really, turbocharger, supercharger, nitrous - declare either of them to your insurance company and your gonna get raped! But you a) have to keep refilling, b) might run out of NOS some time when you wanted that extra power, c) 'charger ain't flammable! d) 'charger aint illegal for road use....
Nitrous ain't illegal so long as it's been fitted properly and it's been through an MOT with the kit fitted...
Get off my thread!! it's about my corrado, not poxy superchargers. I don't like them, I don't want one, I'll never fit one, so stop discussing them in my thread.
Cheers - read an issue of Lax Flower or Revs that said that it was legal to fit, but illegal to have turned on when on public highway. Searched the net since you two have said, and there really is no law that I can find. Cool - Phatty mighta made a NOS convert of me yet!
Back on topic - do you have to swap the bonnet when you put the VR in, or can you mount the engine lower and keep the standard bonnet if you want to?
I'm not sure, it's my first corrado! but I prefer the bulged bonnet anyway, which is why I went for the 1994 one, it has all the VR6 panels.
I cant help seeing victor meldrew in my mind, sat at a computer saying those exact words! Its like I saw it in an episode of one foot in the grave (preceded by "I dont believe it!" of course! )
LOL classic victor meldrew in full swing!!! I saw Andy's post on the charger this morning, i knew it would kick off. I do agree with paul though. That photo under the light came out well, and like the others, those wheels aren't they great . Seeing your such a wheel whore, i should hope they get changed on the weekend ASAP!!!! :-) Veedubber
Nice car Paul, Looks good in that colour. I couldn't believe how hard it is finding a corrado! I've given up now and decided to keep the golf. Just out of interest which engine is it in the corrado as the mk3 golf gti 2.0 8v has 3 different versions? Edited by: gti3_20
