it should be in good nik, its newly retrimmed, cost me 20 for new seat as the recliner was broken and then 60 for the material. got my mums old sewing machine out and got to it! its not perfect but as i only payed 250 for the car i wasnt going to go mad with the interior!

    looks good mate!

always a nice feeling to admire your handiwork, especially when you did every little last bit of it yourself, and its looks good to boot, like it does in your case!

You remade all the fabric parts? Good effort.
What did you do? Rmove them from the frame and recut new bits?

I have some half leather seats I would like to utilise but the fabric down the centre needs to be replaced.

Can you buy Alcantra in rolls, it is synthetic afterall isn't it?

i got my material from a company in wembly that stock all surplus stock from the car manufacturers, their stock is constantly changing so make sure you get enough.

there is a long story behind how i came to do the seats myself..... Basically i was working for a seat manufacture company and got talking to the prototype trimmer. he needed some design work doing (i'm a product designer) and i needed my car trimming as the originals had had it. we aranged i would do about 10hs design work for him and he would re trim the car in material i would supply.

all was well, i'd done his drawings and he had made a start on the car, it was off the road so he had all the seats and doors out of it. he cut off all the old trim, binned it, and started patterning new pannels. got the back of the drivers seat fully trimmed, then went and got a new job and moved to the isle of wight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! left me with just bare seats! [:x]

basically i got a replacement seat and used the original pannels as a guide, made some alowances as the new material was a bit thicker and less strechy and just had a go, made a few cock ups but you learn from each of them. i'm well pleased with the result but i'd suggest you leave anything to do with leather to the proffesionals, if you go wrong with cloth you can unpick and start again but with leather the pannel will be scrap.

    (sorry for the essay!)

just found the receipt, the company is called "boyriven"

Wow looks really good! I'm going to be having a go at some trimming next year when my van project gets underway... So for non-leather trim would a normal domestic sewing machine be up to the job? And what about for Alcantara? Trying to plan ahead as much as possible...

the fabric doesnt pull into the recess area on the shelf as it now allows me to mount my speakers underneath out of sight. the material is velcro'd on.

as for a normal sewing machine, darrenW, my mums was an old singer machine, weighs a ton!, this coped fine but i used a needle for denim as this appeard to be the strongest i could get. the one thing you will need is some decent thread. i "borrowed" mine form a seating company so i dont know where you would get that from. the only thing you will not be able to do is sew the 'card' type fittings on(you'll know what i mean when you take a seat apart) i used a staple gun for this. if you get it on the right way round you will never see the staples.
