This was my first car at 17, used it everyday for 5 years, done about 60-70k during that time, its now on 198k and has been neglected sitting for the past couple years.

I took it off the road because of rust, fuel filler was the worst, drivers side sill and rear arch probably next, rear valance (someone tried to tow it away once while i was in work and the tow hook ripped clean off!).

Unfortunately other projects took over, the golf got shoved to one side and forgotten about...

Dug it out of the depths last night, cleaned up the plugs, some fresh fuel and managed to fire it back into life, its a bit tappety around the head area but runs great just as i remember it!

I really want to be driving this thing again, so i'm planning a 'light' restoration on it, nothing perfect, just to get it to a usable state again, keep the old 8v in it too, because at 198k its probably only just breaking in right...

Will be very slow progress unfortunately as i do have other projects i'd like to finish/progress a bit more on first, but thought i'd start this thread to kick start the motivation.

Here's some pics of when i was dailying it

Same. Once I have the RallyKa finished, in a couple of months hopefully, then the FTP is getting some love.

    Agreed, tornado red FTW!

I wish I could start working on it now but I don't want to end up with lots of half finished projects, with heaps of parts lying around everywhere..

Need to get RWD scirocco finished!
