i am fitting a vdo dayton navigation system to my gti , but have a problem . in order for the navigation to work properly, it needs a speed pulse from the system so it can calibrate its self for speed. as my gti dose not have this i have to either buy one or make it. the cost of a kit is around 100 pounds or 130usd , so making one sounds a better idea.

my question is at what frequency dose the pulses from a standard system run at, i.e. how many pulses per mile/hr and at what voltage. or will a simple signal from a gearbox flange mounted transducer do the job..

    cheers

a mk1 puts a different slant on it, if you had an electrical clocks the sender unit (that replaces the cable) would give the correct pulse to be calibrated.

the other way that might work is if you could put an ABS sender/wheel on one of your front wheels, or even a rears
