    Hi All

I just dropped a deposit for my new corrado with a 1.8t engine, but I noticed that the gear change was sloppy, any idea what could this be?

Also I have a problem I noticed when I start the car it starts fine and hold idle fine, as soon as I touch the throttle it was hesitating to hold and stay on and cuts out. I can start it back on no problem, although this car has been parked up for a 1.5 years. Any ideas what it would be?

    All help really appreciated

    Cheers

    Bobby

what gearbox and gear selector is it using?

without trying to sound dumb. if its been sat around for a 1.5 years, does it have enough fuel in it? what engine code is it?

    Hi Mate,

Sorry I should of stated all that, basically its a BAM engine with 02a box, the selector is the standard corrado 16v one.

With the fuel it was very very low, so could just be that as well. Althought when I was revving hard it was fine, it only cuts out on just touching the throttle pedal.

    Cheers

hmm, id say put some more fuel in it. my 20v did that when i left it standing for 3 months. new fuel and it was fine.

with the sloppy gear change. it could be the selector and shifter, if your ok doing it, then swap the shifter and selector for a 02J set up, a guide is on vwvortex
depending on which 02a box you got, the 02j may drop straight it. others require the bottom housing (underneath the gearbox - bit with VW stamped on it) swapping over.

Ive done it with mine and the gear change is really crisp.

    heres the guide -

if you do it, get a polo shifter, it fits alot better :)

Do the 02j shifter and use a mk7 polo cable change, it will bolt straight in with no cutting or welding

    You'll love the difference

Interesting cheers mate, but a mk7 polo cable change will be hard to find. Also what spec MK7 polo do I need to use and will these cables fit straight onto the 02a box? Also what cars have the 02j shifter's?

5speed 1.8t run 02J box so you'll find the shifter tower on them.

I don't think the polo variant matters, as-long as its a 5 speed. They are slightly more narrow on the top hence the direct fit.
