can someone throw out a detailed list of parts i need to be able to blow a type r off the road without forced induction its an abf engine by the way cheers
Big pockets Big compression Big cams http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140669&highlight=civic+type http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110036&highlight=civic+type http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110218&highlight=civic+type
What quickly springs to mind while im very tired is head work/cams and throttle bodies on a nice long inlet manifold. Expensive but should blow a type r away. There are ways to get nearly the same power while still on standard injection but my brains gone to sleep.
attach an aftermarket rev limiter (omex ones are cheap) and set it to 5000 rpm, you'll blow them away! I'm talking about fitting it to the type-R, by the way
Would that be in a straight line and / or in the twisty stuff as well ? The Mk2 (valver) is a good car and can be well improved however the ITR (DC2) is a great car as standard. ... and very good too
Got the 'speed system' to go on the mk2, got it very cheap off ebay so i'm just going to wire in a toggle switch and voila, makeshift launch control
false economy, how much would an upgrade to "Nicole & papa" status be. i still maintain the whole simple challenges malarky - like towing a caravan up hill?
Agree, with both of the above. I have a Mk1 Golf with a 2.0 16V (9A, not ABF however) and relatively few engine mods (just the KR cam, really) and its also lightened. Once again nothing complicated or expensive, just simple removing of parts. My best 1/4 mile time is 14.15 secs, and I believe a typical Type R figure is 14.3 secs. So its possible (but unlikely in a Mk2).
When we went to santa pod last summer my mates clio 172 (with induction kit and decat) got a fastest run of 15.3. My other friends EP3 Type R (standard other than one of those fancy 200 induction kits) got a quickest of around 15.5 i believe. It depends where you want to beat them, on the road on the way there the civic was consistently quicker, not by much but always pulling away slowly, but on the strip it got a beating!
15.5 for a Tyre R at Santa Pod, seems very slow - was it not producing the power, or not driven properly? I think the 14.3 is a more realistic reference time 'to beat', just for comparison. Of course, you can say either/any car is quicker/feels quicker on the road, but a timed 1/4 mile run gives a good qualitative comparison.
My estimate was based on: http://www.dragtimes.com/Honda-Civic-Timeslip-4539.html Further reading on the subject has revealed that the engine in the 'new' model is the same 198bhp engine as the 'old' model, but the car is heavier hence the slower 1/4 mile time observed by James_mk2 (or was that the old model too?)
clio sports are awesome little cars - and even if a mk2 ABF could keep up in a straight line it would struggle in the 'twisties'.... Civic Type R's are ok - I was a bit uninpressed with the performance when i went in my mates the other day, thought it would be a bit more exciting??
The guy in the civic couldn't really get it off the line, it was either too low revs and bog down, or really launch it and sit on the spot wheelspinning 14.3 seems pretty fast though, i'm sceptical about that unless they've been fettled? another person we were with was running her R26 megane and got a quickest of 14.6 with a limited slip, although again the driver is a big factor The EP3 is the one before the current model
